Before going further it should be made abundantly clear that I only provided the inks and tidying up for this design - the original pencils are by Derby based Artist Diana Bechmann: www.dianakristinbechmann.com/i…
This is the developed line art design for a proposed mural to be painted in the centre of Derby. I can't go into the details at this point as it's still in development and currently out of my hands but can reveal it's the Brainchild of Martin Shooter, owner of Cape & Cowl comics www.facebook.com/pages/Cape-Co…
Diana and myself submitted pencil roughs separately then teamed up with Diana producing a much more detailed pencil design over 2 A2 sheets (roughly to the scale of the wall we plan to work on) before passing them on to me to ink up.
The theme of the mural is Derby in 100 years time. The notion that as an underdog city that's taken a battering from the recession and a total lack of investment in key areas, Derby still has the potential to be more - to do better. I was born in Derby and the city has a staggeringly rich history. The jet engine was developed here, we're the UK's only surviving Train Manufacturer and the worlds first factory was here.
All this made me think:
Draw Harder. Think Bigger. Do Better.
EDIT: As part of our bid to the council it's been requested that we present a colour option for the final design. In the interest of keeping people in the loop I've replaced the line art with those colours. If there's a demand I'll put the line art back up in the scraps section.
