I'm not really wired for character creation so it's probably better if I explain my working process
First off I got a mate to take a few reference photo's of me in an overcoat and hat and did some rough traces off some print outs of the photo's. I then photocopied those traces up to A3 so I could work at a page size I'd be comfortable with.
The whole thing was drawn on a sheet of paper stretched over a board with gumtape so I could paint the background with boiled off tea bags and not warp the paper beyond recognition.
I smothered the back of my A3 photocopy in graphite and stuck it to my stretched sheet before redrawing over the line work like a reverse relief.
Everything was drawn out with blue line lead which for a colour piece may not have been the best idea. Once it was all drawn out and tea bagged stained I cut the sheet free from the board and began the colouring process.
Finally I did the final line art with a mechanical pencil so it gave the whole thing a slightly faded look.
